Heat kills more Australians than fire, floods, and storms combined, and is responsible for the highest number of hospitalisations from extreme weather. In addition to health impacts, research shows our city’s critical infrastructure is vulnerable to heat impacts. This includes energy networks, transport systems, mains water and telecommunications systems.
NSW Treasury has outlined the need to better understand economic impacts of heat on areas including workplace productivity, infrastructure costs, as well as costs relating to service delivery such as increased hospital admissions which directly increases healthcare expenditure.
