Most Greater Sydney councils have identified heatwaves as a significant current issue or future risk for their organisation and community, and they are planning and implementing initiatives to reduce heatwave risks.

This report has been prepared based on desktop research, a survey, and interviews with council staff to understand current heatwave management practices and what is needed to enable these practices to develop further.

This report has informed the Heatwave Management Guide 2025.
