Win for Great West Walk

Media release, 25 May 2021

The Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC) has welcomed the delivery of more than 26,000 new trees for Western Sydney’s longest walking trail.

WSROC President, Clr Barry Calvert, said “We welcome Minister Stokes’ ongoing commitment to the Great West Walk following his launch of the route in 2019.

“A lot of work has gone into the development of this route, and it is fantastic to see the walk being enhanced in partnership with local councils and communities.

“We hope this is just the beginning for building the Great West Walk into a true centrepiece for recreation and tourism in Western Sydney,” said Clr Calvert.

The Great West Walk was mapped by The Walking Volunteers and delivered by local landholders including Blacktown City Council, City of Parramatta Council, Penrith City Council, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, and the Western Sydney Parklands Trust.

Other organisations who have supported the route's development include: NSW Government Architect, Department of Planning Industry and Environment, Western Sydney Local Health District Population Health, Western Sydney Diabetes, Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils and NSW Office of Sport.
