The Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC) has applauded the Berejiklian Government’s partnership with City of Parramatta on the Powerhouse relocation and Riverside Theatre redevelopment.

WSROC President Cr Stephen Bali said “Building the Powerhouse as part of a wider program of arts and cultural development simply makes sense.

“For the West’s creative industries to thrive we need the large – scale infrastructure, performance and exhibition spaces, but we also need grass roots investment to support the development of local talent and local productions,” said Cr Bali.

“We have confidence that the Government’s partnership with City of Parramatta will produce a vibrant cultural scene with the local community at its heart,” he said.

“Keeping its Powerhouse promise to the residents of Western Sydney demonstrates the NSW Government’s commitment to building a more liveable, enjoyable city for all Sydney-siders.

“However we must not forget this is just the first step towards building Western Sydney’s arts and cultural industries.

“We need a comprehensive plan for investment, not just in Parramatta, but for the vast and growing Western Sydney region,” said Cr Bali.
