WSROC welcomes stadia for both work and play

Media release, September 4, 2015

The Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC) has welcomed the NSW Government’s promise of two new stadia in Western Sydney.

WSROC President Cllr Tony Hadchiti said “This is an exciting announcement for those who work and play in the booming Western Sydney region.”

“Half of Sydney’s population lives in the western suburbs, and these residents deserve equal access to quality arenas for sport and entertainment,” he said.

“We also welcome the local employment opportunities these new projects will generate in both the construction and operational phases,” said Cllr Hadchiti.

“Parramatta is home to world class sporting teams, major arts and cultural festivals, and as Sydney’s second CBD, is the ideal location for this new state-of-the-art facility,” he said.

“We are also delighted to hear commitments to a new outer Western Sydney venue.

“The Western Sydney region reaches more than 80 kilometres west of Parramatta, so it is good to hear that the outer west has also been considered as part of this funding.

“We look forward to further details on the location of the proposed stadium in the near future,” said Cllr Hadchiti.
