About Light Years Ahead

The Light Years Ahead project replaces approximately 13,000 high emission mercury vapour street lights with low emission LED lights. The new lights are more energy efficient than existing lights and major cost savings will be made for the participating councils.

Communication and media about the project is accompanied by community engagement and education activities. This ensures energy savings are not only delivered through the street lighting upgrade, but also through Western Sydney residents’ initiatives.
