Love Recycling campaign takes on soft plastics

Soft plastics have been unanimously identified by Western Sydney councils as the top contaminant of the yellow recycling bin.

From this, it is clear that many people are confused about what types of materials qualify as soft plastic packaging, and the correct way to dispose of and recycle these materials.

WSROC’s Waste Team has developed a new campaign to raise awareness on soft plastic packaging and encourage communities to better understand proper recycling and disposal.

The Love Recycling campaign aims to raise community awareness of common types of soft plastic packaging, recognising soft plastics by using the scrunch test, and paying attention to Australian Recycling Label (ARL).

More than 20 soft plastic items have been identified and will be featured over the course of this multi-phase campaign. By improving recognition of soft plastics and keeping them out of the yellow bin, the Love Recycling campaign aims to inform the community and improve overall recycling outcomes.

The Love Recycling? campaign will cover

  • Commonly used soft plastic items.
  • How do I know my soft plastics?
  • How do I dispose of my soft plastics?
  • What packaging labels means what?
