President Cllr Tony Hadchiti was guest panelist on Television Sydney’s Future Forum this month, discussing the infrastructure needs of Western Sydney.

The panel discussed the role of both digital and physical infrastructure in developing a thriving Western Sydney region. The relative importance of internet access, road and rail was explored, along with the question of how these projects should be funded.

During the discussions Cllr Hadchiti highlighted the need to take a holistic view and consider all aspects of infrastructure.

“The term infrastructure covers a vast range of services and systems which allow for the smooth and efficient running of society.”

“While Western Sydney is in desperate need of better transport infrastructure, this should not come at the expense of our community’s schooling, medical and recreational needs.”

“Without adequate investment in social and service infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, sports grounds and cultural centres, Western Sydney will continue to be at a disadvantage,” he said.

Other panelists included Harold Mitchell AC, former WSROC President and 2013 Woman of the West Allison McLaren, and Member for Parramatta Dr Geoff Lee.

Future Forum will air on TVS at 6.30pm on December 21, 2014.
