President of the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC), Cllr Tony Hadchiti, has announced the appointment of the group’s new Chief Executive Officer, Charles Casuscelli.

Mr Casuscelli’s appointment was unanimously endorsed by the WSROC Board this month following an extensive independent recruitment process.

Cllr Hadchiti said “Western Sydney is currently experiencing a period of unprecedented change, and we are excited by the opportunities that lie ahead for WSROC and its member councils under Mr Casuscelli.”

“Mr Casuscelli has strong experience working with various levels of Government, including service as the previous State Member for Strathfield,” he said.

“His experience spans both the public and private sectors and includes over a decade working in the transport infrastructure industry.

“Transport and infrastructure will remain critical issues for our region as Sydney’s population continues to decentralise and move west.

“Already, infrastructure projects such as Badgerys Creek, WestConnex and the Sydney Metro are demanding significant investment from all levels of government, and Mr Casuscelli’s experience will be invaluable as councils work more closely with the state and federal government,” said Cllr Hadchiti.

“I would also like to thank our acting CEO Nic Pasternatsky for his work over the past several months,” he said.

Incoming CEO Mr Casuscelli said he looked forward to representing a region that has been a significant part of his life.

“I would like to thank the WSROC Board for giving me this outstanding opportunity to continue my public service by championing the interests of Western Sydney. The same community that provided so many opportunities for my family since emigrating from Italy in the early 1960’s and today provides opportunities, for so many people, from so many different backgrounds but all with the same aspirations to see their families prosper and their future secure,” he said.

“The Premier of NSW has recently demonstrated, through policy announcements and proposed infrastructure, that the orderly development of Western Sydney is critical not only for the people living and working in Western Sydney but also for the future prosperity of Sydney and NSW,” said Mr Casuscelli.

“It has been my experience that the optimum outcomes for communities are achieved when all three levels of government are working collaboratively and complementing each other’s capabilities rather than competing.

“Local Government has much to offer as an equal partner in this trinity of government. It is my view that WSROC is well placed to enhance local Government capabilities, especially at the regional and sub-regional levels, and also to develop higher-value relationships with all stakeholders that have influence over Western Sydney,” said Mr Casuscelli.

“The next decade promises to be an unprecedented period of opportunity for Western Sydney however we do need more local jobs, enhanced transport options, public infrastructure spending priorities better aligned to community expectations.

“I very much look forward to working with the WSROC Board and its Member Councils, with the Premier and Minister for Western Sydney, the NSW Government and the Federal Government,” he said.

Former acting CEO Nic Pasternatsky welcomed Mr Casuscelli to the role. “I have enjoyed the challenge over the past four months and wish Charles much success and in his new role.”
