President Tony Hadchiti was a key speaker at the NSW Transport Infrastructure Conference in September. Cllr Hadchiti was seated on the Regional Leaders Panel to discuss growth and the impact of key NSW transport infrastructure projects such as Badgery’s Creek airport, Westconnex, M9 Outer Sydney Orbital and the South West Rail Link.

He noted the urgent need to cater for a rapidly growing population, to address transport equality issues for the disadvantaged and the importance of reviewing the metropolitan freight strategy and in light of the decision to build Badgery’s Creek airport.

He also urged the state and federal governments to continue to consult closely with local councils and assist them with essential road and planning modifications to cope with increased local traffic flows and changes in land use.

Cllr Hadchiti cited WSROC’s report Getting Western Sydney Growing which raised the issue of borrowing to build and ensured the discussion surrounding public-private partnerships (PPPs) was kept on the agenda in relation to infrastructure funding.

Attendees included federal, state and local government offices, transport owners and operators, institutional investors and other major decision makers.
